Week 21, another good week gone by...

Monday we had p day of course and so that day was full of fun. We got bahama Bucks which is the best snow cone place in AZ its sooooo good. We played basketball with the zone one last time before Elder Loomis left back home. Funny thing too, we noticed one of the Elders had a tattoo. We aren't exactly sure what it said, but we saw it while playing basketball. WE LIVE WITH THE OTHER SISTERS IN OUR ZONE! Also they got a car. We had another lesson with Linda about the priesthood and all the callings people have in the church.

Tuesday, we had ANOTHER lesson with Linda which was great! We read the scriptures with her, and she's really starting to understand. :) We had another lesson with a new investigator. His name is Ken, he was just released from jail. And the Elders were teaching him before and then realized he was in our ward boundaries. We taught the plan of salvation... unfortunately he wasn't focused really at all..

Wednesday, we had a lesson with a part member family. She had taken the missionary discussions and wasn't really ready for baptism. We asked her if she had ever read the Book of Mormon. and she said no, so we committed her to read the Book of Mormon and to see how she felt about baptism.

Thursday, lots of contacting... and my cousins birthday! Happy Birthday Kik!

Friday, we contacted lots, and lots, a lot of people weren't home :(

And Saturday, there was a baptism, so we invited all of our investagators. Only Ken was able to make it but he said that he really liked it

And Sunday was the Mission Presidents Devotional, a recent convert came. But it was the last time for our zone to see Elder Loomis (One of our Zone Leaders) and Elder Tauvao (The missions, assistant to the Pres.) since they are going home today!

All in all, it was a good week!

Week 20! ... I wonder how many weeks are in a Sister Missionaries mission (:

The update is pretty short for this week.   :(

There wasn't much that happened. We did lots of contacting , but not much success.

We had a lesson with one of our investigators.  We taught her the Plan of Salvation and put her on date for baptism for August 24th.

We did lots of contacting this week and sadly a lot of people said they weren't interested. I wonder if the Savior stood at the door and asked if they wanted to learn more of his gospel what they would say?

Thank you for all of you who haven't written me. I appriecate hearing about whats going on from all of you!

SHOUT OUT TO MY COUSIN, Happy Birthday Krischan!! Hope your 17th birthday is the best! :)

Here's a scripture I wanna share:
In the Book of Mormon, 1 nephi ch. 17 verse 13!

Have a great week!

Love, Sister Holcomb

Week 19, Book of Mormon challenge week!

Hey Everyone!

Another week has sped by, seems like just a few days ago I was emailing home about last week.. This week has flown by! I hope all of you are doing great! I'm happier then ever!

This week we did lots and were VERY productive. We contacted over 100 people and set up lots of appointments.

We saw some scorpions and coyotes..

We had 2 lessons with one of our investigators. We talked to her about the plan of salvation, and invited her to be baptized. She said that she would keep praying about it. We asked her if she would pray with us right then, so we did. We got on our knees. And after the prayer we just sat there in silence.. and waited.. and waited... for 20 mins. She started praying again. After the prayer a second time we got up and we asked her if she felt anything and she just said that she'd keep praying. We fasted yesterday for her. To help her find her answers to her prayers.

I got food poisoning... NOT FUN!

We had a temple trip with our zone! So awesome! Its the last one with our Zone Leader, Elder Loomis. He goes back to ID after this transfer!

We gave away a grand total of 12 Books of Mormon. And our District gave away 87, and our Zone gave over 100 away. :)

We found out on Saturday, we have 850 miles to use this month for our car. Kinda nice. :)
We taught 4 teenagers about the importance of the Book of Mormon, and they accepted one. They really did seem intrested and it was cool. :)

5 months already?! I can't believe I've been out that long...

And to all my friends that aren't members of this church, I just wanna tell you something. I love this church with all my heart. That's the only reason I'm out here. Jesus Christ is my savior and redeemer. I'm definitely not a perfect person, but I know that through the Atonement of Christ that I can become more like him everyday. Easier said then done, I know. But the reason that I'm on a mission is because I WANT to become more like him. A mission, to be 100% honest is not a easy thing. I'm not just down in Arizona vacationing, getting a nice tan and studying about church alot. I'm down in Arizona, telling people about what I know to be true. How its blessed my life, how we can spend eternity with our family, and how through the Atonement we can become better and be able to return to live with God again.  Its hard, and somedays I DO wanna give up and just go home. But because I know all the things I do, and want all the blessing that God has in store for me, I stay and continue the work of the Lord. I CAN DO HARD THINGS! I love all of you. I hope all of you are doing well. I say that in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

Week 18, Another great week, and a baptism!!

Hey Everyone!

This week feels like it just zoomed by! It normally does, but this week feels like it zoomed by even faster. Full of street contacting, contacting people that may be intrested in the church and a baptism!! Yes, you heard correct.. A baptism. She is so great, I talked about her about 4 updates ago, her name is Montana! It was a great experience to be apart of, I also got to sing! :)

At Montana's baptism there were great talks and testimonies bore. There was the wonderful opportunity to witness Montana's baptism and there was another talk on the Holy Ghost, then a couple days before they had asked me to sing, so I did. At the baptism I sang, "Come Follow Me" The spirit was so strong the whole baptism. :) My "first" baptism, I'm just humbled and honored to be apart of her conversion to the gospel.

We contacted a lot this week as well. We stopped by alot of people, alot of people just said to come back! I was so surprised, normally we just get people that don't answer the door or say no. But we have been really blessed this week..

We actually think its because of this.. We went over to a dinner appointment with a member and were talking about how they served a mission in Delaware, and the Sister Missionaries would write down daily miracles they had .. well we kinda stole the idea and are doing the same. We have seen miracles daily! :) Each night we write down all that we've seen from the day and we see more and more everyday!

Its been a great week! Keep writing me letters! I love them and the motivate me! ;)

LOVE YOU ALL!

Week 17-Still working hard!

Hellloooo Everyone!

So first off I'd like to express some frustration from forgetting my camera this week ... :( I had lots of cool pictures of the lightning, scorpions, and a HUGE dust storm.

A member of her ward sent this one to us.

This week wasn't too crazy other then the storms that happened. And there's some funny stuff to talk about.  But sorry from how short this post is.

We had a lesson with a investigator named Linda.  She's from Detroit Michigan and she's been investigating the church for about a year.  When we were in the lesson with her, we asked her if she had ever prayed about the Book of Mormon and she said no!  So we asked her if she would and she said yes!  (I can't believe no one had asked her to.) But the lesson was so good, the spirit was there and everything went pretty smooth.

Church was again interesting.  Since we go to 2 different buildings for church we have to go back and forth. One ward at 9 am, another at a different building at 12, and the 3rd ward at 1 at the first building.  I know confusing.  Sorry.  Haha.

This past week, I've really realized my love of the scriptures. They really can help you throughout your day/week.

Got ANOTHER flat tire.

And last little schpeel of the week, the Sisters had a SLEEPOVER! :) Since we are low on miles for this month, last night we got to go and sleep at the sisters house, and spend the WHOLE p-day with them :) SO fun!!

Any who, that's my short but sweet update, hope y'all (Sister Adams is rubbing off on me) have a good week, and next weeks update will be better ;)

Week 16 + 3 weeks...

HELLOOOO!!!

So if your wondering about the title of this, I'll explain.  So the 13th of July was my 4 months but because of the early transfer I come home 3 weeks earlier then planned.  So as of now, I'm out 4.5 months. On Sept. 2nd, 2013 I will have one year left, it's crazy how time flies!  Sept. 2nd, 2014 I will be flying home!  What a great Anniversary present to my parents! (that's the day they got married!)

This week because I was a trainer and being transferred I met my new comp. Sister Carroll, she's from Kaysville, UT.  She's 20, and she's doing a great job!  We are white washing so the first week is a little slow but we are just getting to know the area. We also live 5 miles out of our area, so guess what else?!  WE GOT A CAR!  Thankfully we got a car because Monsoon season is coming around the corner and its going to save us!

Speaking of Monsoons... there was one this past week. First time I've seen one, first one I've been in one, and its kinda weird. There's a dust storm for 20 mins then for 30 mins its raining. First time I've seen rain for about 4 months haha.

Oh, so there was this whole big deal about me being transferred, and how I wouldn't know anyone in my zone, well guess what? I ended up back in the same zone!!  I'm just covering a different stake now!  So, I still get to see all my buddies but since the mission changed the zone is now called the Mesa zone, no more Skyline. :(

But mostly this week we've just been getting to know the Ward Mission Leaders and all the Bishops. I can tell this is going to be a great transfer!

More details will come next week, I promise. But keep the letters coming ;)

Week 15- I'M BEING TRANSFERRED!!

HEY EVERYONE.. I'M BEING TRANSFERRED!!

So last night we got the crazy call that both Sister Adams and I would be training this transfer.  And because its been a short transfer, she's training with little experience.  But I know she'll do great!

Monday we got to teach Montana!  The spirit was sooo strong!  We taught her about the plan of happiness, the plan that God has for all of us.  She really liked that and because the spirit was so strong we committed her to baptism for the 20th of July!!  She is one solid investigator!  But because I'm being transferred I won't be teaching her anymore.   :(   But I still get to go to her baptism.

Anyways this week was crazy, it was my first 4th of July away from family so it was kinda weird.  But member invited us to participate in a neighbor hood bike parade and because us missionaries had bikes we participated!

The fourth of July was full of food.  All day long!  haha. After the parade we went back to study for the day and a member invited us over for lunch.  We ate some yummy Polynesian food.

We headed back to the apartments and the Elders had a surprise for us.  They made us ANOTHER lunch.  But it was pretty good, only to find out that it was horse?!  Now I can say that I've eaten horse I guess, and its the strangest food too, I might add.

And for dinner we had ribs :) YUM!!

We didn't get alot done because everyone was out of town... In Arizona that IS a possible thing because its so hot.

A lot of the focus at church was missionary work, it was great! The primary kids made us a poster.  :)  So cute!!

Sign that the primary kids made us.

Can't get enough studying.  :)

And then last night ended with the transfer call.  Sad day, still cant believe I'm being transferred!

Well if any of you want to write me letter (cuz I know you do) make sure to send it to this address:
